Configure le_dns on iOS & iPadOS
Privacy-first DNS on iPhone and iPad
iOS offers two approaches: per-network DNS (simple, unencrypted) and DNS configuration profiles (system-wide, encrypted). For full privacy, the profile method is the way to go. Why change your DNS?
Method 1: Wi-Fi DNS (per network)
This changes DNS for a specific Wi-Fi network. It does not cover mobile data and does not encrypt queries.
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi
- Tap the ⓘ next to your network name
- Scroll down to Configure DNS
- Tap it and select Manual
- Remove existing entries, then add:
51.75.96.8251.89.95.33151.115.80.165
- Tap Save
Method 2: DNS Profile (system-wide, recommended)
iOS and iPadOS support configuration profiles (.mobileconfig) that enable DoH or DoT system-wide — including cellular data. This is the only way to get encrypted DNS on iOS without jailbreaking.
How to install a DNS profile
- Generate a DoH profile for
https://ledns.eu/dns-queryusing a trusted profile generator such as dns.notjakob.com - Download the
.mobileconfigfile to your device - Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
- Tap the downloaded profile → Install
- Enter your passcode and confirm installation
Once installed, the profile applies to all connections — Wi-Fi and cellular — with DoH encryption.
Verify the profile is active
Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management and confirm the profile is listed and active.
Verify it works
Visit dnsleaktest.com — the DNS servers shown should belong to le_dns. With a profile installed, you should see ledns.eu as the resolver.
For Wi-Fi DNS, you can also verify by going back to Settings → Wi-Fi → ⓘ → Configure DNS and confirming the le_dns IPs are listed.
